2023 Year-End Review

2023 Year-End Review As we reflect on our work in 2023, we are grateful to our clients and community, and we are proud of the progress that we have made in our fight to unlock the truth and free the innocent.
So far in 2023, we have resolved 5 cases and welcomed home 5 clients. William Johnson, LaFaye Gaskins, David Sparks, and Eddie Ramirez came home to their loving families before the holiday season. Together, these four men lost more than one hundred years of their lives to wrongful conviction.
New requests for legal services also continue to arrive
so far this year we have received 268 requests from potential clients. We have moved hundreds of cases though our four-stage review process, including the completion of approximately 75 Stage 2 reviews. We deeply appreciate the contributions of the many volunteer attorneys, supporters, students, and partners who made this work possible this year. Thank you!
Because of this generous community, our commitment to the people we serve does not end at the prison gates. We are providing a host of other support services to approximately 50 freed and exonerated people across Pennsylvania. We continue building our reentry program, which includes a bi-weekly support group, active case management, and other types of much-needed support.
Thank you for your help in these continued efforts. Together we are unlocking the truth and freeing the innocent.
